Windsor Castle: Remembering HRH Queen Elizabeth II
We say Goodbye to someone who has always been, Our Queen
The death of Queen Elizabeth II rocked our nation, though she was 96 and becoming more frail, somehow we all thought she would make her 100th year. Her death came not long after we celebrated her diamond jubilee this summer just gone. My family and I watched the news, as her own family rushed to her bedside. We went out for a brief walk and in that time, she had passed away. During that walk we observed a double rainbow over the surrounding countryside, a phenomenon witnessed by others over Windsor Castle just 12 miles away from we live in Berkshire. It was a sombre moment, as the reality started to sink in. Our Queen, was gone. A new era had begun within a heartbeat.
My Wife and I decided to pay our own respects to the late monarch and visited Windsor last night. It was as expected a very busy town, busier than normal as many people found their way to the main castle gates where the floral tributes were being spread out.
The following photograph shows an illustration by an unknown artist tied to one of the golden gateposts of the Castle entrance. It depicts the Queen reunited with her late husband Prince Philip and one of their Corgis sat on a blanket looking into the distance. The inscription below the sketch simply says, “Hello again Lilibet”.
People have crafted their own tributes, a combination of photographs, written messages, flags, floral bouquets.
One of the nearby residents had placed their own tribute in their window. Her memory will linger long in our memories and our British identity.
