Welcome back to Rambling Photographer, yes it’s been awhile since I’ve written much for this newsletter but a break has given me fuel and a new zest to raise the viewfinder to my eye and capture lovely images once again.
They say that a break is good for creative people and that coming up with a project or two can help fuel those sparks. So I decided rather crazily to commit to a big project and that is to photograph 167 bridges in different conditions from various angles, which could result in a thousand or so pictures once completed.
The project will culminate with a photo book, something I’ve always wanted to do and will be packed with interesting facts about each of the bridges. If you are a subscriber you will get updates like this with my images, and premium subscribers will get to see some extras, as I will paywall some content.
So only yesterday, I kicked it off at Whitchurch on Thames. The photos I’ve selected are below
Notes
All photos were taken on my Sony A7R3 mirrorless camera handheld
There has been a bridge at this location since 1792, was renewed in 1852 and as recently as 2014
It is one of two remaining private toll bridges spanning the river Thames. The other is at Swinford which I shall visit later on for this project.
The bridge is a Grade II listed structure
The bridge is owned by “The Company of Proprietors of Whitchurch Bridge” who are owned by The General Estates Company
Tolls range from 60p for small vehicles to £4 for vehicles of over 3.5 tonnes.
I’m sharing a what3words address to help you find this specific location. Tap to see exactly where it is:
