Invitation: Farnborough Photowalk 27th November 2021
My first walk in a very long time is coming up in conjunction with community group The Heart of Farnborough
The photo walk, taking place on the 27th November will start from just outside the main entrance to the council offices here in Farnborough. If you don’t know where that is, I shall share a map with you (see end of post). There is parking (pay-and-display) here and in other car parks nearby and it’s not far from the train station if you are coming from further afield.
It’s worth going back to an earlier article of mine, which reveals a few images, giving you a taste of what to expect on the day. If you are a photographer with more than a passing interest for architecture and aviation history, you are going to love this.
The post was written during a testing time for everyone and tells the story of how I found photography helped me clear my head and find clarity. It turns out that I took some really pleasing photos that day. I am sure that you will if you join us on the 27th.
Heart of Farnborough
Now for a quick word from Ann Nelson and Adrian Creek of HoF:
Following meetings at Rushmoor Borough Council offices in early 2019, around 200 people expressed an interest in being kept updated on the proposed plans for a new civic quarter in Farnborough. The Heart of Farnborough Group was formed and a small number of those interested agreed to form a steering group. This group has continued meeting throughout lockdown, and has now adopted a constitution, formed a committee and opened a bank account.
The aim of the group is to promote all that is good about Farnborough and keep the wider group informed of its activities.
What better way of promoting interest in the town and its heritage than a photographic walk around some of the sites of interest and, hopefully, staging a display of the photographs taken on the walk!
The Heart of Farnborough website.
You are more than welcome to ask questions about the group on the day, as a few of the members will be joining us.

Event Details
What time does the walk start?
10am outside the Rushmoor Borough Council offices, the link below will take you to Google maps, to help you find our start and end point, same place.
Where we will be setting off from
Covid-19
We are constantly taking all of the precautions necessary. Masks are recommended wherever we may need to go indoors but not compulsory. Anything can change of course. Nonetheless, we will be outdoors for the majority of the time on the day. If you wish to wear a mask at any time, please do - I am just as anxious as anybody.
How long is it?
2.5 hours approx. The walk includes a number of stopping points where we will spend a certain amount of time exploring photographic ideas. Distance is around 4km.
Is it all outdoors?
Yes, it will be mostly but to round off the walk we are hoping to pay the FAST Museum a visit but bear in mind.
This depends on whether any restrictions are introduced, none of us know at this point in time if that will happen.
The Museum is free admission but they will be very pleased if people make donations. It is worth bringing some cash on the day.
Is there a limit on numbers?
Yes, this event is something of a guinea pig to be honest. I am going to take around 8-12 people at the most. It will be easier with 8 folks than 20. If the interest in the event is higher than anticipated, then I will be looking at some more dates to do it again in early 2022. Subscribe to my free newsletter below to be kept up-to-date.
Can I bring a friend or family member?
Yes, though it may result in us needing to add extra dates if the interest is higher than anticipated. It’s tricky to know!
What should I bring along?
Camera-wise, whatever you have, phones are welcome too, I will certainly have my iPhone as I will be spending more time talking to you about photography, than taking pictures.
Wear sensible, comfortable shoes for walking around town.
Dress for the weather, whatever in forecast that day.
Bring a snack and something to drink - we will (all being well) finish up at a cafe to round off the event!
Any other questions?
Just leave a comment below and I will respond there or email at the address I mentioned above.
